When moving into a new space, we often think of what colour to paint the house without considering its furniture. As a result, we end up with a situation where the colors of a room doesn’t match everything else in it. When moving or renovating, first pick out furniture and fabrics before picking the paint. It’s easier to find paint in several shades than the other way around.
· Add a focal Point: Every room in your house should have a focal point, a center of attraction. It’s where your eye lands whenever you walk into a room. In a TV room for instance, the focal point is usually the television. All other furnishing arrangement direct attention to the television. The same principle applies to all rooms in the house. Whether it’s a console, oversized chest or an oil painting, ensure there is a focal point.
· Proper artwork/ photo arrangement: In Nigeria, there’s the temptation to cover walls with family photos or artwork. This results in the house looking clustered and busy. Instead, why not pick a few favourite photos and mount them in a series of similar looking gold and silver frames to achieve a collage style effect? If you must use a bunch load of photos and artwork, you can try a floor to ceiling type of wall gallery. Turn an entire wall area into a mini gallery but bear in mind you need a skilled eye to pull this off.
